Approximately 143 student-athletes across Saint Anselm College’s 20 NCAA Division II programs were honored in the 2012 Scholar-Athlete Academic Honors Reception held in the Dana Center for the Humanities Monday evening.  The ceremony, emceed by Interim Director of Athletics Tyler Fleming, recognized student-athletes for their outstanding academic accomplishment of achieving an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher or achieving a 3.0 or higher in the Spring or Fall semesters of 2011.

Additionally, six scholar-athletes were recognized for their academic and athletic excellence, ranking amongst the top student-athletes in the country.  Allyn Doyle (Merrimack, N.H.), Caitlin Forbes (Hanover, Maine), Maura Hurley (Holden, Mass.), Jonathon O’Reilly (Plano, Texas), Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) and Brendan Timmons (Franklin, Mass.) all posted grade point averages of 3.4 or higher to earn membership in Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Student-Athlete Honor Society.  Qualifying athletes become eligible during the junior year of college.

Near the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Joseph Catanese, the college’s outgoing Faculty Athletic Representative, was honored and recognized for his contributions to Saint Anselm College across the prior 25 years.  He was issued a plaque commemorating his many years of service to the college by his colleague and close friend Joseph Horton, Ed.D., the Vice President of Student Affairs.
