SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Junior Mike Hayden (Cranston, R.I.) and senior Zachary Brian (Stoneham, Mass.) of the Saint Anselm College baseball team each earned a Northeast-10 weekly award for the period ending March 9, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Hayden earns his first career Northeast-10 Player of the Week award following a seven-day stretch in which he batted .480 (12-25) over seven games as he hit a pair of home runs, drove in six, scored three times and racked up five extra-base hits. Hayden slugged .840 en route to a 1.407 OPS during the 3-4 week for the Hawks and was perfect in 62 chances in the field.
Brian garners the first NE-10 Pitcher of the Week honor of his career as he went 1-0 in his only start last week – a 5-0 win against the University of the Sciences on Friday. Brian tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits to hold his opponent to a .107 batting average, while striking out a career-high 14 batters and walking just one.
Through 11 games this season, Hayden is hitting .500 (21-42) with three home runs and 12 RBI to go along with an .833 slugging percentage and .553 on-base percentage for a 1.386 OPS.
Brian, meanwhile, is 2-1 with a 1.19 ERA over three starts. He has allowed just three earned runs and 14 hits in 22.2 innings and has held opponents to a .177 batting average, while striking out 26 and walking just six.
Hayden, Brian and the Hawks return to action Saturday, March 15 as they travel to take on Saint Thomas Aquinas College in doubleheader action beginning at noon.
