WINTER PARK, Fla. – Behind a complete game shutout from senior Joseph Levasseur, the Saint Anselm College baseball team picked up its second-straight win with a 2-0 victory over Bentley University on Thursday morning.
The Hawks (3-6) will wrap up a doubleheader this afternoon when they take on Assumption at 1 p.m. Bentley falls to 1-10 with the setback.
Levasseur dominated the Falcons, only allowing two hits in nine innings of work with seven strikeouts and only one walk allowed on 99 pitches. The senior allowed only four base runners all game on a single in the first, a walk in the third, a double in the fourth and a hit batsman in the fifth.
Matthew Flynn registered three of the Hawks' seven hits on the day and scored a run, while Max Wadington, Tyler McKeon and Jon McQuarrie each went 1-for-3. Nick Bragole went 1-for-4 with both RBI's for Saint Anselm.
The Hawks threatened in the bottom of the first after back-to-back singles from Flynn and Wadington and a wild pitch moved them into scoring position, but the Falcons worked out of the jam by getting the final two outs of the inning.
After a quiet second inning, Saint Anselm finally broke through in the third after Aaron Crandall led off the inning with a walk, followed by another single from Flynn and a sacrifice bunt from Wadington. Nick Bragole stepped to the plate and hit a two-run single down the right field line to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish.
Levasseur worked around a lead off double in the fourth to get three-straight outs and then hit a batter to lead off the fifth, but also worked around that to keep the Falcons off the base paths. The senior retired the final 15 batters he faced in the game to pick up the complete game shutout.
