WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team won its third-straight game with an 8-2 victory over Assumption College on Thursday afternoon at Alfond Stadium in Winter Park, Fla.
The Hawks improve to 4-6 overall with the win, while the Greyhounds fall to 6-5 on the year. Saint Anselm is back in action tomorrow morning when they take on Concordia College at 10 a.m. on the campus of Rollins College.
Six different players registered a hit for the Hawks led by a 1-for-4 day with two RBI and a run scored from Max Wadington. Matthew Flynn and Jason Turner were each 1-for-4 with a run, while Dan Bodi was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Shaine Carpenter was 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Aaron Crandall was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Jonathan Dunn picked up the win on the hill for the Hawks, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Jared Ferris pitched the final four innings, allowing four hits with four strikeouts.
Saint Anselm opened the scoring in the game as Dan Bodi drove in John Marculitis with an RBI groundout to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Assumption answered back in the top of the fourth as Mike Schmidt plated RJ Libby with an RBI single to knot the game at 1-1.
The Greyhounds took their first lead of the game, 2-1, in the top of the fifth as Jake Byrne drove in Andrew Jaehning with a single after Jaehnig had tripled earlier in the inning.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Hawks took advantage of a couple of Assumption miscues to score three runs and grab the lead back at 4-2. Bodi and Crandall both scored on errors by the Greyhounds before Shaine Carpenter singled up the middle to drive in Max Wadington and give the Hawks a two-run lead.
Ferris would keep Assumption off the scoreboard in the sixth despite giving up a pair of singles, and the Hawks rewarded him with a pair of runs for some breathing room to make it a 6-2 advantage. Jon McQuarrie picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Turner, while Bodi scored on a wild pitch.
The Hawks would tack on two more runs in the eighth as Wadington drove in a pair of RBI's with a single up the middle that scored Matthew Flynn and Vincent Fortini and gave the game its final score of 8-2.
