PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Pace University on Sunday afternoon in Pleasantville, N.Y.
The Setters (11-7, 4-0 NE10) earned a 6-1 victory in game one before posting a 6-0 win over the Hawks (6-10, 1-3 NE10) in the nightcap.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Rindge, N.H. for a 3 p.m. matchup against Franklin Pierce University.
Game One: Pace 6, Saint Anselm 1
In the opener, Pace scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Setters would tack on two more later in the game to post a 6-1 win over Saint Anselm.
Matthew Flynn and Tyler McKeon each went 2-for-3 with Flynn scoring the Hawks run. John Marculitis went 2-for-4, while Jon McQuarrie and Max Wadington added 1-for-4 days with Wadington picking up his 11th run of the season.
Joseph Levasseur spun a complete game in the setback, tossing eight innings and allowing six runs on eight hits, while striking out four.
Pace plated four runs in the first as Garrett De Lotto had an RBI single and Michael Gulino added an RBI double. De Lotto would come in to score on a wild pitch before Cory Capaldi reached on a fielder's choice to make it a 4-0 game.
The Hawks threatened in the top of the third as Flynn and McKeon stroked back-to-back singles and then each moved up a base on a wild pitch. Unfortunately for Saint Anselm, Kyle Cashman got out of the jam to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.
Pace added two more in the sixth on RBI singles by Gulino and Michael Salmonese that pushed the lead to 6-0.
Saint Anselm finally broke through in the top of the eighth as Wadington drove in Flynn from third with an RBI single through the right side and only one out. Dan Bodi reached on a walk to put runners on first and second with two outs, but the threat ended there as Pace's Anthony Criscione escaped any more damage by getting a strikeout.
Game Two: Pace 6, Saint Anselm 0
The Saint Anselm College bats fell silent in game two of the doubleheader as Pace's Kevin Wiltse allowed only two hits in seven innings of work to lead the Setters to a 6-0 victory.
Matthew Flynn and Tyler McKeon each went 1-for-4 to lead the offense, while Max Wadington picked up a pair of walks in the defeat. Jon McQuarrie, Vincent Fortini and Liam O'Sullivan also reach based via a free pass.
Jonathan Dunn allowed five earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work while striking out four in the defeat. Preston Yerrington pitched the final three innings of the game, scattering three hits and allowing one run with two strikeouts.
