Flynn, Crandall earn ABCA East Region Gold Gloves

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Saint Anselm senior Matthew Flynn and sophomore Aaron Crandall were both honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) as East Region Gold Glove award winners.

The duo become only the second and third players in program history to earn the honor, joining Robert Kelly who won the award in 2011 as a first baseman.

Flynn posted 37 hits in 165 at-bats in 43 games played with five doubles, 21 runs scored and 14 RBI. Flynn also stole six bases and drew 19 walks to lead the Hawks. Defensively, the senior posted a .969 fielding percentage on the year, committing only seven errors in 224 total chances with 108 putouts and 109 assists. Flynn ranked ninth in the Northeast-10 Conference in assists, and his 29 double plays were the eighth-best mark in the league.

Aaron Crandall registered 23 hits in 116 at-bats over 37 games played with nine runs scored, 10 RBI, 12 walks and five stolen bases. Defensively, Crandall posted a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 as he did not commit an error in 101 chances with 98 putouts and three assists. Crandall was only one of 12 players in the league to post an unblemished fielding percentage this season.

The Hawks as a team posted the best fielding percentage in program history at .968 as the squad committed only 50 errors in 1,586 chances in 2017.
