ALBANY, N.Y. – Saint Anselm College sophomore guard Tim Guers was voted to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East All-Region First Team, it was announced on Monday afternoon.
Guers, who earned a unanimous spot on the All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team last month, becomes the first All-Region First Team selection since Chris Santo earned a spot back in 2015 and 10th in program history. Guers helped lead the Hawks to a 20-9 overall record by averaging 21.7 points on 44.7% shooting to go with 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 36.4 minutes per game.
The sophomore scored in double-figures in 27-of-29 games this year, registering 17 games with 20+ points and seven games with 30+ points. Guers became the first player in program history to score 30+ points in four straight games (Jan. 12-21) and posted his first career triple-double against SNHU on Feb. 21.
Guers has already scored 983 points during his two years on the Hilltop, and his 630 points this year is the sixth-best mark in program history. Guers ranked third in the NE10 in scoring, fifth in minutes per game and ninth in rebounding, and nationally ranked 28th in scoring, 25th in points, 35th in field goals made, and 53rd in free throws made.
This season the Hawks posted their fourth 20-win season in the past five seasons while earning the program's eighth NE10 Tournament Championship last month. Saint Anselm made its 21st NCAA Tournament appearance, and fifth-straight for the first time in program history, but fell in the First Round on Saturday night.
The All-Region teams were selected by NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors from institutions and conference offices.
Guers was joined on the All-Region First Team by East Region Player of the Year Devin Gilligan of Southern New Hampshire University, Justin Reyes of St. Thomas Aquinas, Michael Mallory of Southern Connecticut State University, and Tyaire Ponzo-Meek from Wilmington. All those who were an All-Region first team pick will now be advanced to the national ballot.
