BREWSTER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College golf team earned the top spot at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship on Oct. 28, sharing the title with the University of Massachusetts Lowell at The Captains Course in Brewster, Mass.
This is the second NEIGA title in three years for the Hawks.
Teams from 35 different colleges and universities across New England and New York gathered for the 78th Annual event. Due to the impending threat of Hurricane Sandy, the Championship was shortened from 36 holes, to just an 18-hole event.
Saint Anselm shot a cumulative total of 311, which was just one stroke ahead of third-place finisher, the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
The Hawks were anchored by the duo of Joe Fitzsimmons (Marshfield, Mass.) and Jason Lussier (Holliston, Mass.), who each shot a 76 on the day, for a sixth-place individual finish.
Rounding out the play for Saint Anselm was Billy Curley (Duxbury, Mass.), who scored an 84.
This concludes the fall season for the Hawks. Saint Anselm will return to the tees in the spring for its 2013 spring matches.
