DANIELS, W. Va. – Sophomore Stephen Hunt fired an opening round 76 (+4) to finish tied for 26th on day one of the NCAA Division II Men's Atlantic/East Regional Tournament held at The Resort at Glade Springs Golf Club in Daniels, W. Va.
Hunt opened his round with back-to-back birdies to move to two-under, but he would bogey two of the next three holes to drop back to even par through five holes. Two-straight pars followed by a birdie on eight put him back in the red at -1, but a run of three-straight bogeys at the turn dropped him to +2 through 11 holes.
Hunt recorded pars on six of the final seven holes – including five-straight on holes 12 through 16 – but a double bogey on 17 led to an opening round 76 for the sophomore.
After the first round, Hunt is seven shots behind co-leaders Chris Kuphiewski of Mercyhurst and Hunter Wescott of Dominican, who shot rounds of 69 (-3). Joining Kuphiewski and Westcott in the red were Alex Patricio of California (Pa.) and Kevin Gately of St. Thomas Aquinas, who are two shots off the pace after firing round of 71 (-1).
Hunt tees off at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, May 9) afternoon, beginning on the back nine . You can follow along with live results by clicking here.
