Killeen, Steinetz Named To NEILA Pre-Season All-New England Team
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Defenseman Travis Killeen (Pittsfield, Mass.) and midfielder Tyler Steinetz (Sparta, N.J.) were selected to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (NEILA) Division II Pre-Season All-New England Team announced late Tuesday evening. The pre-season team is constructed by a special committee.
Last season, Killeen appeared in all 14 games for the Hawks, scoring two goals and recording 28 ground balls. Spanning a three-year career for Saint Anselm, Killeen has recorded three goals and an assist for four points (3-1=4), collecting 59 ground balls while causing 21 turnovers in 39 career games played.
As a junior last season, Steinetz led the team in face-offs, earning possession in 50.8% of his chances (135-of-266). On the offensive side of the ball, Steinetz appeared in all 14 games for the Hawks, scoring a career-high 14 goals and one assist for 15 points (14-1=15). He tied for the team-lead with five man-up goals while also scooping up a team-leading 76 ground balls.
For his career, Steinetz has made appearances in 37 games, scoring 21 goals and two assists for 23 points (21-2=23). Among active players, Steinetz is the team's leader in ground balls (108) while also boasting a .489 face-off percentage (195-of-399) all-time for Saint Anselm.
The leadership of each player has not gone unnoticed by Head Coach Steve Gaudreau. Both Killeen and Steinetz were named captains alongside senior Michael McCarthy (Medford, Mass.) as they look to guide a young squad seeking to improve a 3-7 conference record last season.
Saint Anselm opens up their season on Saturday, Feb. 25 as they face-off against the Lions of Molloy College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
