MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seniors Alex Pacitti and Mark Vitello of the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team were both named 2017 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Nike Division II Scholar All-Americans, as announced on Thursday.
Pacitti and Vitello join Kevin DeBenedetto (2010) as the lone student-athletes to earn the accolade in program history. The pair were among 17 Division II student-athletes to receive the honor and Saint Anselm was one of just four Division II programs with multiple honorees.
The Scholar All-American awards added to a long list of accolades for both Pacitti and Vitello this season. Both were named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England Teams, the NEILA All-New England Teams and the All-Northeast-10 Conference Teams, while also being picked to play in the NEILA All-Star Game.
Pacitti, who was an NEILA All-New England Second Team and All-NE10 First Team selection, registered 18 goals and seven assists for 25 points in 14 games this season for the Hawks. In his senior campaign, Pacitti recorded a point in 12-of-14 games with five multi-point performances.
An NEILA All-New England First Team and All-NE10 Second Team pick, Vitello recorded 30 points on 23 goals and seven assists in 2017. He also recorded a point in 12-of-14 games and notched eight multi-point outings, while ranking in the league's top 25 in goals.
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Please note that simply being a member of the North/South team and/or being all-league/conference does not make the student-athlete a lock for the award. Each individual will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Scholar AA committee.
