EASTON, Mass. – Zach Heckt had a goal and an assist to lead the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win at Stonehill in its season finale in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.
Heckt scored the opening goal in the ninth minute and set up his younger brother Nick Heckt in the 72nd minute for Saint Anselm (4-11-1, 3-9-1 NE-10). The win helped the Hawks avenge a 4-0 loss to Stonehill (7-10-0, 5-8-0 NE-10) in the season opener at the Catholic Cup back on Sept. 2.
In the ninth minute, the older Heckt cut across the top of the 18-yard box and hit a shot into the lower-left corner from just inside the box following a counter attack for his third goal of the season. Just over a minute later, Jack Heintzelman nearly made it 2-0 but saw his effort hit the post.
The score remained 1-0 until the Heckt brothers combined to double Saint Anselm's lead with an insurance goal. Zach's cross from the right found Nick on the left side of the box for the freshman's first-collegiate goal.
The Skyhawks held a narrow 10-8 advantage in shots on the afternoon and both teams got four shots on goal. Helio Meirelles Neto picked up the win with a four-save shutout, while Conor McDonough made one save in the loss.
