MANCHESTER, N.H. – Facing the top-ranked team in the latest Oracle/ITA East Region Rankings, the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by Concordia (N.Y.) College on Sunday.
Junior Daniel Kmetz and senior Benji Page gave Saint Anselm (2-15) its lone match win at No. 3 doubles by topping Tomer Mendler and William Nilsson by a 6-4 margin to move the pair to 5-4 on the season. Concordia (9-4) was victorious 6-3 and 6-1, respectively, at the top-two doubles spots and recorded straight-set victories at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to end the match with three singles matches still on court.
The tandems of Eymeric Chevalier/Henry Masters and Alessandro Evangelisti/Michele Fenoaltea provided the Clippers with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to hand the visitors the doubles point before Kmetz and Page's win. The match was played under Division I rules and scoring.
William Nilsson, Mendler and Fenoaltea lost five games over their three singles victories to secure the team result for the Clippers. In a match that went unfinished at No. 2 singles, senior Adam Weinstein was trailing Chevalier, the No. 57-ranked player in the nation in the Oracle/ITA Rankings released earlier this week, 7-5, 0-1. The No. 6 singles match was also tightly-contested at the time the match was decided, with Axel Oljons leading Page, 7-5, 3-2.
Next up for Saint Anselm is a match at Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, Apr. 11 at 4 p.m.
