Men’s Cross Country Finishes 21st at NCAA East Regional

BOSTON – Senior Christopher Powers (Haverhill, Mass.) placed 75th overall as the Saint Anselm College men's cross country team finished 21st at the NCAA East Regional on Sunday afternoon at Franklin Park.

The Hawks totaled 553 points, while the University of Massachusetts Lowell captured the meet with 71 points and Stonehill College also qualified for the NCAA National Championship as it placed second with 77 points.

Powers completed the 10-kilometer course in a time of 34 minutes, 35.1 seconds.

Fellow senior John Surabian (Saugus, Mass.) placed 97th in a time of 35:24.9, while classmate Christopher Chaves (Hudson, Mass.) was 119th in 36:20.3.

Freshmen Peter Schirripa (Lexington, Mass.) and Mathew Gonnella (Syracuse, N.Y.) rounded out the Saint Anselm scorers by finishing 130th and 132nd, respectively, in times of 37:11.0 and 37:11.5.

Fellow classmates Sean Connolly (Cumberland, R.I.) and Brendan McCormick (West Hartford, Conn.) placed 139th and 152nd, respectively, in times of 37:23.6 and 38:51.4.
