MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman outfielder Shannon Colson of the Saint Anselm College softball team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for her performances on the team's recent trip to Florida, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Colson hit .391 (9-for-23) with a .462 on-base percentage and three stolen bases over the first eight games of her collegiate career last week. The freshman recorded at least one hit in six of the eight games, including reaching base four times by going 3-for-4 with a walk against No. 19 Indianapolis on Friday. She also went 1-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases in a 10-1 victory over No. 18 Caldwell on Thursday.
Fellow outfielder Amanda Bickford was named to the NE10 Honor Roll after hitting .483 (14-for-29) with a .516 on-base percentage for the Hawks in Florida. The junior had five multi-hit games during the week, including two three-hit games. She also went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in the 10-1 win over No. 18 Caldwell.
Saint Anselm's next game is not until Wednesday, March 22, when cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire University visits the Hilltop to open Northeast-10 Conference play for a doubleheader. The twin bill is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
