DANBURY, Conn. – Candace Andrews of the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) First Team as part of the 2016 ECAC Division II Women's Basketball Awards earlier this month.
Andrews, a junior guard and the 2013-14 ECAC Rookie of the Year, was joined on the first team by Southern Connecticut State's Jackie Beathea, Mansfield's Katie Fitzpatrick, Dominican's Deja Gabbidon and N.Y.I.T.'s Dina Ragab. Ragab was honored as the ECAC Division II Player of the Year, Bridgeport's Jadijah Dickson was the Rookie of the Year and N.Y.I.T.'s Anthony Crocitto was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
In her junior season, Andrews paced Saint Anselm in scoring at 12.6 points per game, shot 53.3 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from behind the arc. She surpassed the 20-point mark on four occasions, including a season-high 26 in the first round of the East Regional against Bentley.
In addition to her scoring, Andrews finished ninth in the country in assists, averaging 5.9 per game. She handed out seven or more assists in 12 games this past season.
The Hawks finished 2015-16 with an 18-10 overall record, including a 14-7 mark in Northeast-10 play. Saint Anselm's berth in the East Regional was the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999.
