PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Junior defenseman Martha Findley and junior forward Alex Starzyk of the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team were both selected to the CCM East Region Second Team All-America Team by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) on Thursday evening at the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship Banquet.
The pair were two of three New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) players to earn CCM All-America status, joining Castleton State goaltender Jess Cameron. Both Starzyk and Findley earned the accolade for the first time in their careers and give Saint Anselm three All-America picks in the last two seasons, joining goaltender Lindsey Brown, also a second-team choice, from last season.
Findley tallied two goals and 24 assists for 26 points in 27 games in her junior season. Her average of 0.96 points per game from the blue line is third-best in the country and her 0.89 assists per game are the eighth-most of all skaters. Findley was a First Team All-NEHC performer this season as well.
Starzyk, the NEHC Player of the Year and one of five finalists for the Laura Hurd Award for the Division III Player of the Year, led the conference with 19 goals and added 15 assists in 23 games for the Hawks. The junior led the NEHC and ranks 12th nationally in points per game (1.48), while ranking sixth in the country in goals per game (0.83).
The duo helped Saint Anselm finish 21-6 overall and 14-3 in NEHC play this season. The Hawks advanced to the NEHC Championship Game but fell 4-3 in overtime to Holy Cross.
