Women’s Skiing Earns Second, Third Place Finishes at Saint Anselm Carnival

BENNINGTON, N.H. – The women's skiing team held the Saint Anselm College Carnival over the weekend, hosting nine other colleges and universities to compete and raise money for cancer awareness. The Hawks finished in third place for Saturday's slalom competition and improved to a second place overall finish for the giant slalom competition on Sunday.

The Hawks' total time of 6:06.36 on Saturday landed them in third place out of 13 teams. Monica Redente (Morris, Conn.) led the Hawks in the day's competition with a two-run total of 1:54.84, for a third place finish amongst all participants.

Kirsten Huff (Russell, Mass.) wound up in second place for Saint Anselm with a 1:00.66 on her first run and a 1:00.25 on her second for cumulative time of 2:00.91 – 15th place overall. Rounding out the qualifying times for the Hawks was Tara Byrne (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who finished in 29th place with a time of 2:10.61.

Also competing for Saint Anselm were Caitlin Forbes (Hanover, Maine) and Jolie Poirier (Wilton, Conn.) who registered times of 2:18.39 and 2:29.91, respectively. Forbes finished her first run in fifth place overall, but then came out of her second run with a 40th place finish.

Sunday's GS competition placed the Hawks in second place with a total time of 5:54.82 – just five seconds behind first place finisher, Brown University. Forbes led Saint Anselm on day two of competition with a third place overall finish with a time of 1:55.41. Just behind Forbes, was Redente with a 1:57.83 – sixth place among all skiers on the day.

Huff also finished in the top-20 of all skiers with a two-run total of 2:01.58. Rounding out Hawk skiers on day two was Lauren Salko who ended the day with a time of 2:14.11.

The Hawks return to action Feb. 9-10 as they travel to Wildcat Mountain and take part in the UConn Carnival.
