Murray 11th, men sixth after first day of USCSA Eastern Regional

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's skiing team placed sixth and individual qualifier Jill Murray of the women's team finished 11th in the giant slalom on day one of the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional on Saturday at West Mountain.

Murray compiled a time of 1:34.36 over two runs to place 11th in the field of 61. The senior's time was 2.75 seconds behind individual leader Ali Gunesch of Brown and Murray's second-run time of 48.30 seconds was ninth-best on the day.

Freshman Luke Heald led five Hawks with a 19th-place finish on the men's side with a time of 1:31.93. Heald cut just under three seconds off his first-run time with a 44.23-second run in his second run. Benji Page was just .51 seconds behind Heald over the two runs, as his time of 1:32.44 was good for 22nd overall.

Alex Gowen and Stephen McLeod joined Heald and Page in the top 30. Gowen came in 24th (1:32.63), while McLeod placed 27th on day one (1:33.08). Alex Conrad posted a time of 1:35.60 to finish 38th.

The performances leave the men's team and Murray in contention for a spot at nationals when the regional concludes with the slalom on Sunday, Feb. 19.
