NYACK, N.Y. – An early goal by Kendra Bonczar and a late strike by Corey Murray gave the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team a 2-0 win over Nyack in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Mosley Field.
Bonczar netted her second goal of the year just 2:24 into the game for Saint Anselm (2-1), which outshot Nyack (0-2) by a 26-2 margin in the game. Murray added her first of the season with a little over five minutes remaining to put the game out of reach.
Nicole Rust set up Bonczar's opener inside the first three minutes for her second assist of the season, while Jillian Beatty found Murray in the box for the late insurance goal. Bonczar's goal gives her two in just three games to start the season.
The Hawks outshot the Warriors 11-0 in the first half and got six of their 11 shots on frame, but Julianna Kranes turned aside five shots to keep the score 1-0 at the break. Shots on goal for the game finished 15-1 in favor of Saint Anselm but Krannes made 13 saves to keep the Warriors in it.
In the second half, Nyack continued to keep the damage at 1-0 and nearly found a tying goal when Rebekah Lawler hit the crossbar in the 72nd minute with just the Warriors' second shot of the game. The Hawks fired the final eight shots of the game after that and were rewarded with Murray's late tally.
Cassie Quattropani picked up the win but did not have to make a save in the opening half. The win tied the senior with Kristin Roy (1985-88) for second in program history with 18 career victories. Elise Bouchard stopped the one shot she was faced with in the second half to preserve the win. The combined shutout for Quattropani and Bouchard was their second in three games to start the season.
Saint Anselm opens Northeast-10 Conference play with a road game at reigning conference champion Adelphi on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.
