MANCHESTER, N.H. – Goals from Corey Murray and Jessica Kaufman propelled the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field.
Murray put Saint Anselm (4-6-0, 2-6-0 NE10) on top in the 32nd minute, but Le Moyne (4-7-0, 3-5-0 NE10) hit back to even the game less than two minutes into the second half. With the teams locked at 1-1, Kaufman provided her second game-winning goal of the year in the 71st minute to give the Hawks the victory.
Saint Anselm improved to 8-0-1 in the last nine home meetings with Le Moyne by claiming the fifth-straight meeting between the two programs that was decided by a 2-1 score.
After a scoreless first half hour, Murray opened the scoring after 31:18 with her team-high fifth goal of the season. Caly Farina robbed the ball off a defender, got to the end line on the right flank and pulled it back for Murray to slot home from inside the penalty spot for her third goal in the last four games.
Saint Anselm maintained its 1-0 advantage at the half, but Le Moyne pulled level just 1:13 into the second half on a long-range strike from Kirsten Colegrove.
After Elise Bouchard made a couple saves to keep the score tied, Kaufman capitalized on a mishap at the back by the Dolphins to grab the winning goal, her third tally of the season. After a back pass, Kaufman robbed the ball off goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika and fired into an open net from the top of the box.
The Saint Anselm defense made the lead stand up, not allowing Le Moyne a shot on goal the rest of the way. Bouchard evened her record at 4-4-0 on the season with five saves, while Cumika took the loss.
The Hawks look to improve on their 4-2-0 home record when Saint Michael's College visits Melucci Field on Wednesday, Oct. 11 for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
