Women's tennis blanks Saint Rose for first NE10 victory

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team dropped just seven games on its way to blanking The College of Saint Rose 9-0 for its first Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season on Sunday at South Tennis Courts.

Seven different players recorded match wins for Saint Anselm (2-1, 1-1 NE10), which received defaults at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles from Saint Rose (0-4, 0-3 NE10) due to a lack players. In the seven matches that were played, the Hawks lost just two games in two doubles matches and five games in five singles matches.

Jess Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes were the lone Saint Anselm players to feature in both singles and doubles play. The pair won their match against Averie Bowen and KeriAnn Mahoney at No. 1 doubles by an 8-1 score for their second NE10 victory in as many days. Meghan Golden and Tess Malerbi won by the same scoreline at No. 2 doubles against Wendella Wilson and Lindsey Skouras.

In singles, Perkins cruised to her third-straight 6-0, 6-0 victory to start the season at No. 1 singles and Hughes also did not drop a game at the second spot. Playing at No. 3 singles for the first time in her career, Lexi Stathis earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wilson, while Kayla Hodas and Maikah Bulpitt lost just one game apiece in wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

Bulpitt's victory was the first NE10 win of her young career and Hodas moved to 2-0 on the weekend and the season. The victory kept Saint Anselm unbeaten all-time against Saint Rose, as the Hawks have now won all 14 meetings in the series.

Saint Anselm is scheduled to travel to Gordon for a 3 p.m. match on Thursday, Sept. 21.
