MANCHESTER, N.H. - Jess Perkins cruised to another win atop the lineup and paired with Kaitlin Hughes for a doubles victory, but Bentley University claimed a 7-2 victory over the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team in Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday at South Tennis Courts.
Perkins did not drop a game at No. 1 singles for the sixth time this season, and the third-straight match, for Saint Anselm (4-6, 3-6 NE10) and, along with Hughes, put together an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. However, Bentley (7-3, 4-3 NE10) claimed a pair of hard-fought doubles points and five straight-set win in singles to grab the win.
After Perkins and Hughes raced to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, the Falcons snatched a pair of 9-7 victories at the other two doubles spots to take a lead into singles. The pairs of Hannah Fabianski and Evann Welty and Katie Brandow and Olivia von Oldenburg posted the wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for Bentley.
Brandow and Alexia Petruzziello increased the Falcons' lead to 4-1 with victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, before Perkins provided Saint Anselm with another point. However, Bentley would claim the final three singles matches to close out the match, as Welty, Tiffany Suchanek and Rachel Hui finished off their wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Saint Anselm is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. when American International College visits South Tennis Courts.
