MANCHESTER, N.H. – Following an extensive search, Ryan Small has been named the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Saint Anselm College. Small comes to the Hilltop after serving as a Graduate Assistant for NCAA Division II Millersville University, recently earning a master's degree in Sport Management.
With the Marauders, Small provided coverage of 10 of Millersville's 19 varsity sports teams while also overseeing and directing the high-definition live stream broadcasts. He was tasked with developing the student work study staff and managed all live statistics for his assigned sports, most recently providing assistance at back-to-back NCAA Division II Atlantic Baseball Regionals, hosted by Millersville.
"I am thrilled and honored to be starting my career with the Hawks," said Small, who begins his Saint Anselm tenure on July 8. "Upon my arrival, the Saint Anselm campus and its community impressed me. With an athletics program that continues to trend upward, I am looking forward to becoming a part of the Saint Anselm family and highlighting the athletic and academic efforts of the student-athletes."
Small has gained valuable on-the-job experiences through internships at Messiah College, Tufts University and Harvard University. During his time with each of the aforementioned athletics departments, Small has provided game-day media relations coverage for numerous NCAA postseason events, including men's soccer, women's basketball and softball.
At NCAA Division III Messiah, Small served as the men's lacrosse contact and also provided coverage for most of the Falcons' spring sports. During his time at Tufts, he covered women's soccer, men's golf and men's ice hockey under the direction of Paul Sweeney, the Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Award winner from ECAC-SIDA, and was the official scorer for the 2016 NCAA Division III Elite Eight for men's soccer.
"We are excited to add Ryan and his skill set to our department," remarked Griffin Spencer, the College's Director of Athletic Communications. "His well-rounded background, developed through hard work at several NCAA member institutions, will allow us to tell the stories of Saint Anselm student-athletes in new and creative ways."
No stranger to the Queen City, Small was an intern for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A baseball affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. He began his tenure as an intern in 2015 and later was promoted to Marketing and Promotions Assistant in 2016.
A 2017 graduate of Endicott College with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management and a minor in Business, Small was employed within the sports information office under Shawn Medeiros, the 2019 recipient of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Rising Star award.
An avid golfer, Small will reside in Manchester, N.H.
