MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Shauna Whittemore (Bennington, N.H.) of the Saint Anselm College field hockey team and senior Chris Bent (Dracut, Mass.) of the football team garnered Saint Anselm Student-Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday for the period ending Oct. 7.
Whittemore continued her hot play in the cage for the Hawks last week as she went 1-1 with a .917 save percentage and a 0.46 GAA. Whittemore stopped seven of eight shots in a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday and then recorded the first shutout of her career as she made four saves in a 1-0 win at Adelphi on Saturday.
Bent quietly put together another solid performance for the Saint Anselm defense. Bent recorded a game-high tying 13 tackles, including 0.5 for a loss. Bent also nabbed his first career interception, which he ran back 13 yards to set up an 11-play, 64-yard drive that sliced the Hawks' deficit to 10 in the fourth quarter.
Whittemore and the Hawks return to action Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. when they travel to take on American International College. The Hawks return home Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Southern Connecticut State University under the lights at Grappone Stadium on Senior Night. The Hawks will also be hosting their second annual “Corners for the Cure” to raise money and support for breast cancer awareness.
Bent and the Hawks return to the gridiron Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. when they play host to Pace University in a Homecoming matchup at Grappone Stadium.
