MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kaitlin Oldfield (Epping, N.H.) of the Saint Anselm College women’s soccer team and junior Justin Bernard (Cambridge, Mass.) of the football squad were chosen as the Saint Anselm Student-Athletes of the Week for the period ending Oct. 21.
Oldfield continued her hot streak on the field for the Hawks last week as she helped the team to a 1-0-1 record and extended her point streak to four games. She scored the only goal for the Hawks in Saint Anselm's 1-1 draw with Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, before registering a Senior Day hat trick against Assumption College on Saturday. Netting the game winner at 74:57 and adding another goal less than three minutes later, Oldfield led the squad to a 5-2 victory.
Bernard did all he could to offset a powerful Merrimack offensive attack Saturday as he hauled in 11 passes for 160 yards and a career-best three touchdowns against the Warriors. Bernard helped the Hawks ring up 475 yards of total offense and 357 passing yards, which are the second highest marks this season behind the 500 and 405, respectively, the offense totaled at Southern Connecticut on Sept. 29. Bernard was also part of a trio of receivers that each posted at least 80 receiving yards in the contest, which marked the first time the Hawks reached that feat since Nov. 6, 2010.
Oldfield and the women’s soccer team return to action Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. when they play host to Stonehill College.
Bernard and the football team return to the gridiron Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. when they play host to American International College in their home finale under the lights at Grappone Stadium on Senior Night.
