Baseball Drops 8-2 Decision to #14 So. New Hampshire

RINDGE, N.H. – Sophomore Ken Morrisino (East Longmeadow, Mass.) went 2-for-5 and drove in a run, but the Saint Anselm College baseball team fell to 14th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday evening in a game played at Franklin Pierce University's Pappas Field.

The Hawks drop to 6-11 on the season, while the Penmen improve to 15-5.

Southern New Hampshire went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Mike Mostroberti hit a two-out RBI double off freshman Joseph Levasseur (Rowley, Mass.). The Penmen struck for three more in the second on an RBI double from Anthony Aceto, a run-scoring groundout from Jeremy Tejada and an RBI single from Al Stanton.

An error and a pair of passed balls led to another three-run inning in the fifth for the Penmen, who broke the game open at 7-0.

Morrisino's two-out RBI double plated senior Kyle Grumoli (So. Hadley, Mass.), who led off the frame with a single, to put Saint Anselm on the board in the seventh. The Hawks cut it to 7-2 in the eighth with a little rally following back-to-back strikeouts to begin the inning. Freshman MacNeill Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.) singled, moved to third on a double by senior Matt Wojichowski (Portsmouth, R.I.) and scored on a passed ball.

The Penmen closed the scoring in the bottom of the frame on Stanton's bases-loaded sacrifice fly that scored Aceto, who led off the inning with a base hit.

Levasseur (0-3) allowed six runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out a pair over the first 4.1 innings. Sophomore Tyler Buck (Franklin, Mass.) worked 3.2 innings in relief and gave up two runs – one earned – on four hits, while striking out three and walking two.

Finnegan and Grumoli each went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Wojichowski and freshman Jon McQuarrie (Salem, N.H.) were both 1-for-4.

SNHU starter Cole Warren tossed five shutout innings as he allowed just one hit, while fanning 12 and walking three.

The Hawks return to action Wednesday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. when they head back to Rindge to take on Franklin Pierce in their Northeast-10 opener.
