Baseball Drops Home Finale to Assumption, 11-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Billy Johnson and Tom Paine both went 3-for-4 with two RBI as Assumption College spoiled the Saint Anselm College baseball team's home finale with an 11-2 victory Monday afternoon at Sullivan Park.

The Hawks fall to 12-32 on the season, including 6-20 in Northeast-10 play and 4-16 within the Northeast Division. The Greyhounds improve to 17-18, 11-14 NE-10, 8-9 NE-10 NE.

Assumption grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Paine and a run-scoring double off sophomore starter Tyler Buck (Franklin, Mass.). Ysander Figueroa led off the third with a homer to left and Johnson doubled later in the frame and scored on an error to make it 4-0.

Michael Panza was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to open the scoring in the fourth before Johnson's two-run double to right center widened the gap to 7-0.

Saint Anselm made it onto the board in the fifth when sophomore Thomas Murphy (Chelmsford, Mass.) led off with a single up the middle and later scored on a balk.

Paine's sacrifice fly to right and Bret Clark's RBI single in the seventh stretched the lead to 9-1 before freshman Frank D'Amato (Cranston, R.I.) led off the bottom of the frame with a double to right-center, moved to third on a single up the middle by freshman Nick Bragole (Newburyport, Mass.) and scored when sophomore Ken Morrisino (East Longmeadow, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice.

Michael Smith drove in the 10th Assumption run with an infield single in the eighth and Kelvin Sim's run-scoring single to right in the ninth closed the scoring.

Buck (0-2) allowed seven runs – six earned – on nine hits in 3.0-plus innings of work. Freshman Joseph Levasseur (Rowley, Mass.) gave up three hits in 1.0 inning, but was not charged with a run. Freshman Christopher Bunero (Budd Lake, N.J.) and sophomore Seve Llanio (Glen Arm, Md.) each allowed two runs on four hits and a walk. Bunero struck out one in 2.1 innings, while Llanio punched out a pair in 2.2 frames.

D'Amato (run) and junior Joe Morin (Salem, N.H.; walk) were both 1-for-3, while Murphy (run) and Bragole each went 1-for-4. Senior Kyle Grumoli (So. Hadley, Mass.) had the Hawks' other lone hit and was 1-for-2.
