BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Junior pitcher JJ Dunn of the Saint Anselm College baseball team was recognized by the East Region National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as its Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Dunn secured Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Saint Anselm hurler to win Pitcher of the Week honors since Joseph Levasseur '17 achieved the merits on Feb. 8, 2016.
Dunn and the Hawks opened the season with two victories in three games, including a sweep of East Stroudsburg on Saturday. It was the first time since the 2015 season that Saint Anselm had defeated the same opponent on the same day.
Pitching in the second game of the doubleheader, Dunn allowing only two hits while striking out eight batters in his first career complete game victory. Walking only one batter, Dunn did not have a baserunner advance past first base in the contest.
He has appeared in 23 games for Saint Anselm across a three-year career, making 12 starts with a career earned-run average of 3.67. The first-time winner of NE10 Player of the Week honors has fanned 66 batters in 81 innings pitched.
