AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team recorded a 10-4 loss to Lewis University on Monday at Lake Myrtle Park.
Saint Anselm falls to 4-5 with the loss while the Flyers move to 2-5 on the young season. The Hawks will take on Ashland University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. at historic Henley Field.
Lewis put two runs on the board in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run from Connor Rutherford. Ryan Schefske led off the scoring in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI double before back-to-back singles from Rutherford and Neal Tyrell created a 5-0 advantage for the designated visitors.
Jermaine Terry would score for the Flyers on a balk prior to Anthony Cavalieri lofting a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Lewis' seventh run of the afternoon.
The Hawks got their first run of the game via an RBI single from Max Wadington. Junior Oscar Larranaga rapped an RBI double to help Saint Anselm plate two runs in the bottom half of the Flyers' big inning.
Tyler McKeon added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning and Colin Rios added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. Lewis scored three more runs in the top of the ninth inning, reaching the 10-run mark while limiting the Hawks to only four runs in the convincing victory.
Adam Krol fell to 0-1 on the season, yielding seven earned runs despite striking out seven batters in four-and-a-third innings. Preston Yerrington pitched two-and-two-thirds innings, allowing only one hit. Ryan Schworer and Danny Graceffa also made relief appearances for the Hawks.
Blake Marks struck out seven batters for Lewis, earning the victory with seven strong innings. Brady Kostecki earned his second save of the season, fanning two Hawks batters in one-and-two-thirds frames.
