Baseball drops series opener at Bentley, 16-4

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Andre Gaudet stroked a bases-clearing triple for the Saint Anselm College baseball team, serving as an offensive highlight during a 16-4 loss to the host Falcons from Bentley University on Thursday.

Saint Anselm drops to 11-26 overall on the year, having lost all but five of its 23 games against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The Hawks will close their season on Friday against Bentley (18-20, 12-11 NE10) in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.

Shortstop Max Wadington joined Gaudet with two hits on the afternoon as the duo drove in all four Hawks runs, the latter doing so on a triple in the top of the fourth inning with the bases loaded. Wadington followed Gaudet's big hit with an RBI single to the second baseman, cutting the hosts lead to 7-4.

After the Hawks posted the big inning, Bentley scored the game's final nine runs en route to the convincing victory over Saint Anselm. The Falcons picked up 17 hits on the day, led by three-hit performances from Jake Pierce, Mike Samko and Gino Fordiani.

Saint Anselm starter Adam Krol allowed 12 hits, drawing the loss after allowing nine total runs on the day, six unearned. For the second-straight game, each Hawks reliever allowed at least one earned run as Danny Garofalo, Andy Williams and Max Hall combined to yield seven earned runs in relief.

Bentley's Luke Dawson tied his school's single-season strikeout record on the game's final pitch, reaching 90 on the season after fanning two Hawks batters. He allowed four runs across the nine-inning affair, yielding only eight hits on 137 total pitches.
