#5 Field Hockey hosts #6 Stonehill Saturday in NCAA First Round

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 5 ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team will host No. 6 Stonehill College in an NCAA Tournament First Round matchup on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H.

The Saint Anselm field hockey team has accomplished a series of program-firsts this season, starting with their first Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Championship and earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NE-10 Tournament. There, the Hawks advanced to their first-ever NE-10 Championship game and now have garnered the program's first NCAA Tournament bid.

Stonehill is no stranger to NCAA Tournament having earned a bid to the Big Dance for the fourth-straight season. The Skyhawks are playing in the first round for the fifth time in program history, and the first time since 2013. Stonehill has earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2013-2016, while reaching the national semifinals in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2015. The Skyhawks fell in the Northeast-10 Tournament Semifinals, dropping a 3-0 decision to LIU Post.

Saturday's game marks the 26th meeting between the two programs with the Skyhawks holding a commanding 23-2 lead in the matchup. Saint Anselm won the last meeting between the two squads, pulling out a 3-1 win over the Skyhawks exactly one month ago on Oct. 12. Stonehill's Kacie Smith opened the scoring early in the first half, but Erin Collins, Rose Mooney and Jamie McNamara scored three-straight goals to lead the Hawks to their first win over Stonehill since 2014.

Saint Anselm enters the NCAA Tournament with one of the most balanced attacks in the country as 18 players have registered a point this season, with six different players posting 10+ points on the year. The Hawks currently rank 10th in the country in goals per game (2.25), while ranking eighth in assists per game (1.65). Defensively, Saint Anselm ranks seventh in the nation in goals-against average (1.07) and fifth in save percentage (.825).

Stonehill has been just as effective this season as they currently rank seventh in the country in goals per game (2.53), while their 6.58 points per game is the seventh best total in the nation. Defensively, the Skyhawks rank 11th in the nation in goals-against average (1.42), while the team has posted a .815 save percentage to rank eighth in the country. Kacie Smith currently ranks 2nd in the country with 1.16 goals per game, while her 2.58 points per game also rank 2nd nationally.

The winner of Saturday's game advances to take on the East Region's top seed in #4 LIU Post on Friday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. at W.B. Mason Stadium on the campus of Stonehill. The National Championship game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20 on the campus of Stonehill at 1 p.m.
