No. 4 field hockey to host NE10 postseason contest

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The No. 4-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team officially clinched the Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Championship on Saturday and will compete in the league playoffs for the third-straight season.

The Hawks, piloted by sixth-year Head Coach Carolyn King Robitaille, racked up a 17-1 overall record, defeating 11-of-12 league opponents, to clinch the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Saint Anselm, ranked fourth nationally by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, has earned a first round bye and will host the winner of the Merrimack/LIU Post showdown scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.

Saint Anselm will play host to either Merrimack or LIU Post on Friday, Nov. 3 at Grappone Stadium in a 6 p.m. showdown. A detailed preview will be published on in the days to follow.

The Hawks lead the nation in winning percentage (17-1, .941) and have won seven-straight games heading into the playoffs. Saint Anselm has set several program records to date, including combined point scoring (78-50=206), points per game (11.44), goals (78), goals per game (4.33), assists (50) and goals-against average (0.99).

On a national scale, the Hawks rank second nationally in scoring margin (2.95), penalty corners per game (11.29) and assists per game (2.71). Freshman backstop Julia Hand is currently ranked fifth in NCAA Division II in goals-against average (1.09) and senior Mia Vecchione is seventh in the nation with 0.53 assists per game.
