Field hockey falls to LIU Post on the road, 2-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team yielded two late goals, falling to the host Pioneers from LIU Post by a 2-1 score on Sunday.

The Hawks fall to 2-3 overall on the season after the loss in their first Northeast-10 Conference contest of the season. LIU Post moves to 3-2 overall and to 3-1 against league opponents to date.

After a scoreless first half, freshman Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) notched her second goal of the season only 7:48 into the second half to place the Hawks ahead by a 1-0 margin.

With exactly eight minutes left in the second half, Tarryn Morris was awarded a penalty stroke and cashed in with the equalizing goal. Only minutes later, Emily Miller scored for the Pioneers on a breakaway to create a 2-1 lead for the home team.

The Hawks had a last-minute penalty corner but a shot by Saint Anselm was sent wide right with 24 seconds left in regulation time.

Sophomore Julia Hand (Reading, Mass.) made four saves on six shots, drawing the loss. Rachel Vellis made four saves on five Saint Anselm shots.

The Hawks host Assumption this Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
