MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team came from behind twice to defeat visiting Adelphi University, 3-2, on a rainy Friday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.
The Hawks improve to 11-5 overall on the season while picking up their seventh win in 11 Northeast-10 Conference contests to date. The Panthers fall to 8-8 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
Adelphi scored quickly in the first half as Jackie Brown raced down the end line and snuck the ball into the corner of the cage to take a 1-0 lead at 6:37. The Panthers maintained control for a majority of the opening stanza to go into the break with a one-goal lead.
The Hawks found the equalizer just over seven minutes into the second half on a goal by senior Maddie Bressler (Franklin Mass.). Kate Manson answered for the Panthers at the 50:09 mark of the game to retake the lead.
Junior Hannah Friend (North Easton, Mass.) was quick to tie the game for Saint Anselm. She lifted a shot over a group of players and the ball landed in the back of the cage at 54:44.
After a lengthy weather delay, the teams resumed play with 6:42 left and the Hawks scored the eventual game-winner at 67:09. Junior Emma Bartle (Acton, Mass.) sent a ball into the circle, finding senior Abby Walker (Scarborough, Maine) to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead.
