Field hockey's Hand earns national Goalkeeper of the Week honors

GILBERT, Ariz. - Sophomore Julia Hand (Reading, Mass.) of the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey program picked up Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week honors on Wednesday only a day after drawing similar honors from the Northeast-10 Conference.

Hand is the first student-athlete from Saint Anselm to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors. Her former teammate, Emma Kincaid '18, earned the program's first-ever Offensive Player of the Week honor on Nov. 1, 2017.

Hand picked up two victories in goal for the Hawks last week, the first of which came against the nationally-ranked Warriors from Merrimack College where she posted three saves. She would later add four saves against Franklin Pierce University, earning her ninth career shutout across 34 games in goal for Saint Anselm.

For her career, Hand currently ranks first among all Saint Anselm backstops with a team-record 1.15 goals-against average. She has seen action in 17 games exiting Tuesday's postseason tilt against Southern New Hampshire and needs only one additional game played to set a career-high mark.

Saint Anselm, who became nationally-ranked shortly before Tuesday's NE10 announcement, will host Assumption this Friday, Nov. 16 in the NE10 Semifinals at Grappone Stadium. More information about the contest will be made available in the coming days.
