GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Senior Hannah Friend (North Easton, Mass.) of the Saint Anselm College field hockey team set the program record for points in a career on Saturday as the sixth-ranked Hawks posted a 3-0 victory at Adelphi University.
Saint Anselm, ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, improves to 3-0 on the season. The Hawks have not yielded a goal against in three games to date, the team's best-ever start to a season. Adelphi drops to 2-2 on the year after its second consecutive 3-0 loss to a nationally-ranked opponent.
Friend scored her team's third goal of the afternoon, giving her 75 career points on 28 goals and 19 assists. She passed the all-time points record of 74 set by Kristina Katsikis '13 and needs only one goal and one assist to own the program record in each statistic outright.
Sophomore Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) put her team on the scoreboard with her second goal of the season, scored with only 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Junior Ericka Meissner (Falmouth, Mass.) was set up by LaCasse shortly into the second stanza, upping the guests lead to 2-0 just over five minutes later.
Friend's goal came less than two minutes later and was set up by Meissner, creating the final score of 3-0. In total, the Hawks held a 9-5 advantage in shots for the contest and the teams split the game's 10 penalty corners.
Junior Julia Hand (Reading, Mass.) made four saves and logged her 12th career shutout, tying the team record set by Katherine Sears '17 from 2013-16. The duo of Alexandra Kanapes and Angelina Saunders combined to yield three goals on seven shots faced.
Saint Anselm will now prepare for its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 18 against Bentley at 7 p.m. The Hawks look to shut out their fourth-consecutive opponent, which has never been accomplished in team history.
