MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Tim Guers (Langhorne, Pa.) of the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team has been selected as the Notheast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year, highlighting four All-NE-10 selections. Voting for the awards was conducted by the league's head coaches.
Mike McCahey (Clarkstown, N.Y.) was selected to the All-NE-10 First Team, while Harrison Taggart (Wallingford, Vt.) earned Second Team honors and Victor Joshua (New Haven, Conn.) was named to the Honorable Mention Team. Guers was a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team as well.
Guers becomes the first NE-10 Rookie of the Year since McCahey won the award in 2012-13. In his first season on the Hilltop, the freshman is averaging 11.0 points on 47.6% shooting, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 31.4 minutes per game. Guers, who was named the NE-10 Rookie of the Week three times this season, has also knocked down 41.1% of his three-point attempts this season. He finished in the top 30 in the league in field goal percentage in the conference, while ranking 16th in three-point field goal percentage.
Mike McCahey earns his second All-NE-10 First Team selection after earning the honor in his sophomore campaign. The senior currently leads the team at 18.6 points per game while knocking down 48.2% of his shots and 43.5% of his three-point attempts. He is also averaging 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in a team-leading 33.3 minutes per game. McCahey ranks eighth in the NE-10 in scoring and three-point field goal percentage, and ranks inside the top-25 in field goal percentage and 15th in rebounding.
Through 99 career games, the three time All-NE-10 selection McCahey currently ranks ninth all-time in career points (1,670), tied for 10th in career scoring average (16.9 ppg), eighth in career field goals (601), 10th in field goal percentage (46.2%), 12th in rebounds (716), and 12th in minutes played (3,353).
Harrison Taggart earned his first All-NE-10 selection by being named to the Second Team after averaging 15.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 block per game this year. Taggart has also shot the ball well for the Hawks as he ranks 10th in the league in field goal percentage (53.6%) and fifth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (47.5%) while ranking 11th nationally in that category as well.
Rounding out the All-NE-10 selections was senior Victor Joshua, who averaged a career-best 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Joshua currently ranks seventh in the NE-10 in field goal percentage at 54.9%, and he also ranks fifth in assists and 12th in steals per game. Joshua recorded 4+ assists in 18-of-26 games this year, and scored in double-figures in 23-of-26 contests.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they host #3 SW the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinal matchup at 4:00 p.m. in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. Tickets will be $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and children and $1 for students from Northeast-10 institutions with a valid ID. Because pricing is set by the Northeast-10 Conference, no passes or complimentary tickets will be available.
