MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior captain Tim Guers (Langhorne, Pa.) set the all-time career points record for the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team in Wednesday's 100-69 victory over the Greyhounds from Assumption College.

The Hawks, ranked 24th in the country by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, improves to 18-4 overall and to 14-3 against the Northeast-10 Conference. Assumption drops to 6-18 overall and to 2-15 against league foes.

Guers scored his third and fourth points of the game at the free throw line, tying and eventually passing Matt Cahill '06 who racked up 2,081 points across 119 career games. He finished his day with 23 points, settling in at 2,101 career points across 112 games on the Hilltop. He also concluded play with 716 career made field goals, setting the all-time team record in that category.

Only six student-athletes in Northeast-10 Conference history have reached at least 2,100 career points with Guers ranking seventh all-time in points entering his next game. The reigning NE10 Player of the Year, Guers picked up Preseason All-America honors from both Street & Smith's Magazine and the Division II Bulletin.

Senior Cody Ball (Londonderry, N.H.) posted a game-high 27 points, dishing out six assists to match sophomore Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark). Junior Danny Evans (Leeds, United Kingdom) posted 17 points with sophomore Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) tallying 15 points and six rebounds.

Following a game-tying Paul layup with 11:35 remaining in the first half, the Hawks went ahead 20-18 on the next possession with a jumper from Ball. The ensuing 17-2 scoring run put Saint Anselm in front for good as the Hawks led by double digits for the remainder of regulation time. A dunk by Ball as time expired in the first half capped a 20-8 stretch of Saint Anselm scoring, boosting the hosts to a 53-30 lead.

Assumption shrank the Saint Anselm lead to 15 points with a trey from Matthew Kelly, but the Hawks responded with 26 of the game's next 38 points to create an 87-58 lead with 7:24 to play. Across the 7:24 minute span, Ball had three triples and Paul had two fast-break layups to bolster the Hawks offensive effort.

Another fast-break layup by Paul put the Hawks ahead by 31 points, 94-63, with 5:51 remaining in regulation time and freshman Joey Belli (Wayne, N.J.) matched that score with his three-point basket with 2:11 left, creating the final score of 100-69.

Saint Anselm finished by shooting 61.7% from the floor, making 37-of-60 shots from the floor, and making 12-of-19 from beyond the arc for a 63.2% clip. The Hawks also posted seven rejections, led by freshman Alonzo Jackson (Medford, Mass.) and his four blocks in only 21 minutes of action. Ball threw up his team's other three blocks.

Assumption had five scorers reach double-digit point scoring figures, led by Kelly's 13 points.

The Hawks will battle Bentley this Saturday, Jan. 16 at 3:30 p.m. in Waltham, Mass.
