Guers selected to NCAA Division II Elite Eight All-Tournament Team

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Senior Tim Guers (Langhorne, Pa.) of the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team was named to the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight All-Tournament Team on Saturday.

Guers propelled the Hawks to their first-ever victory in the Elite Eight, scoring 31 points against No. 5-ranked Nova Southeastern on Wednesday before pouring in 23 points against No. 1-ranked Northwest Missouri State on Thursday. He combined to post 12 rebounds and nine assists across the two games played at the Ford Center in Evansville.

A key member of only the second Saint Anselm team to appear in the Elite Eight, Guers capped a strong career with NABC All-America honors for the second consecutive season. The two-time Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year finished up a senior season where he averaged 21.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists across 31 games in 2018-19.

Earlier in the NCAA Tournament, Guers was voted as the Most Outstanding Player of the 2019 NCAA Division II East Regional, helping the team to its second regional championship by averaging 17 points per game, falling just shy of a double-double with 9.7 rebounds per game and a team-best 17 assists.

He will graduate this spring as the program's all-time leader in point scoring (2,327), field goals made (799), defensive rebounds (657) and minutes played (4,388). He finishes his career as the second leading scorer in NE10 history, moving past James Hector of American International (1990-94) in the league's record book.

Guers stands as the only Hawks student-athlete ever to rank in the top-10 in career points (2,327), overall rebounds (808) and assists (521). He finishes ranked second in career free throws made (485), second in career games played (122), third all-time in career points per game (19.1), seventh in overall rebounding (808), seventh in assists (521), ninth in career three-point baskets (244) and 10th in blocked shots (56).

After knocking Saint Anselm out of the Elite Eight on Thursday, the Bearcats went on to defeat Point Loma, 64-58, to win the national championship and complete the fifth undefeated season in Division II history. Northwest Missouri State also matched the all-time divisional record for most wins in a season (38).
