BREWSTER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team currently sits in second place out of six teams competing at the 84th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Division II Championships held at The Captain's Golf Course.
The Hawks, thanks to a field-leading eight birdies as a team, trail Assumption by only five strokes entering the second and final day of competition on Monday. American International trails Saint Anselm by one stroke and is followed by Bentley, Saint Rose and Franklin Pierce.
Senior Stephen Hunt (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Alec Brunelle (Salem, N.H.) are each tied for third in the field with matching scores of 78. Hunt and Brunelle each shot one-under on par five holes, tying for the course lead in those conditions. Hunt also carded 11 pars, the third-most of any golfer in the field.
Senior Billy Argus (Canton, Mass.) turned in a score of 81 and was followed by senior Jack Dowding (Wilbraham, Mass.) and his score of 85 through the first day of competition. Freshman James Henry (Reading, Mass.), who posted two birdies on the day, rounded out the competitors from Saint Anselm, shooting an 89.
The Hawks, who played on the "Port Course" on Sunday, return to action on Monday to play the "Starboard Course" with Henry leading the field with a 10 a.m. tee time.
