Manchester, NH (February 12) – Matt Rhone (Dedham, MA) scored a power play goal and assisted on three other scores, leading Amherst College to a 4-0 win over Saint Anselm at Sullivan Arena Saturday afternoon. Cole Anderson (Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada) held strong in net, recording his third shutout of the season.
Amherst played well defensively the entire contest, holding Saint Anselm to just 15 shots on the afternoon with 43 shots on goal by Amherst. Coleman Noonan led the way for the Hawks with five attempts on net, but couldn't find a way to crack Anderson.
Eddie Effinger (Belleville, IL) picked up three points on the afternoon for his efforts. The junior scored a goal and assisted on two others for the Lord Jeffs. Amherst is now 11-7-4 overall and 9-5-3 in the NESCAC. Saint Anselm falls to 10-8-2 overall and 7-8-2 in the ECAC East.
The Hawks head out on the road this week to take on Salem State College. The Vikings are receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com poll. Following that contest, the Hawks will conclude their regular season with three home games against Bowdoin, Colby and Stonehill before heading to NE-10 tournament action.
Saint Anselm Men's Hockey will recognize the seniors on the team at the Colby game on the 19th of February.
