MANCHESTER, N.H. - Despite forward Joe Agliato's (Hauppage, N.Y.) first collegiate goal, the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team fell to the Spartans of Castleton State College by a 2-1 margin Saturday afternoon at Thomas F. Sullivan Arena. The Spartans, ranked sixth in the USCHO.com NCAA Division III National Poll, remain undefeated on the season with a 4-0 record both overall and within the ECAC Men's East. The Hawks even both their overall and conference record at 2-2.
Ryan Frost scored his first goal of the season at 1:32 of the third period, lifting Castleton State to a 2-1 victory. Entrenched in the offensive zone following a slashing penalty issued to Tucker Mullin (Andover, Mass.), Frost threw the puck on goal where it bounced off of a Saint Anselm defender and into the net for what would prove to be the eventual game-winning goal.
Agliato scored his first collegiate goal and the Hawks first strike at 18:11 of the second period. Skating through neutral ice, Agliato had taken two strides past the blueline and put a wrist shot on net that beat Castleton State goaltender Erick Cinotti low and away for the unassisted goal. Kyle Pichler opened the scoring for both sides on the afternoon, potting the Spartans first goal of the game off of a Ross Herzog assist.
Goaltender Robert Kang (Glen Rock, N.J.) began the game in goal for the Hawks but yielded to freshman Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.) after stopping four-of-five shots on goal in 9:39 of action. Dries (0-2) collected the loss after halting 20-of-21 shots on net. Cinotti (4-0)posted the victory, turning aside 29-of-30 shots on net for his fourth victory of the season.
