Thoroughbreds Down Men’s Ice Hockey, 3-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Forwards Johnny Daniels (Andover, Mass.) and Tim King (Weymouth, Mass.) scored goals, but the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team fell to the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College by a 3-2 margin Saturday evening at the Saratoga City Rink.  The Hawks have dropped four straight regulation contests, fall to 6-7-3 on the season alongside a 3-7-2 ECAC Men's East record.  Skidmore improves to 7-10-2 on the year while posting their sixth conference victory of the season (6-6-0).

Junior defenseman Zack Menard scored his fourth goal of the season at 19:32 of the middle stanza, lifting the Thoroughbreds to a 3-1 advantage that they would not relinquish.  Forward Tim Colvin and defenseman Nick Dupuis collected assists on the game-winning strike.

Nick Dupuis scored his fifth goal of the season at 9:53 of the first period, placing the Thoroughbreds on the board first near the midpoint of the first period.  Forward Dave Dupuis collected the lone assist on Skidmore's first strike of the evening.  Only 1:12 into the second period, a Daniels' boarding penalty preceded forward Brendan Cottam's fourth goal of the season that lifted Skidmore to a two goal cushion.

Daniels' recorded his fourth goal of the season at 18:39 of the second period, halving the Skidmore advantage by a 2-1 spread.  King and forward Mike Richard recorded assists on Daniels goal.  With the goaltender pulled in the last minutes of regulation time, the Hawks converted their opportunity with the extra attacker as King potted his fifth goal of the season off of a Richard feed.  Forward Sean Jenkins (Boston, Mass.) also collected an assist on the play.

Hawks goaltender Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.) drew his fifth loss of the season, turning aside 26-of-29 shots on goal in the contest.  Skidmore goaltender Colin Bessey earned his sixth win of the year, halting 23-of-25 shots on goal in the complete game victory.

Saint Anselm was 0-for-5 on the power play.  Skidmore was 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

NOTABLES:  In all-time play, Saint Anselm still possesses an 8-5-2 record against this evening's opponent…Earlier this season, the Hawks posted a 3-1 victory against Skidmore at the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena on Nov. 12…The Hawks have not lost four straight games in regulation dating back to their five game losing streak between Feb. 11 and Feb. 19 of last season…Saint Anselm is 0-for-10 on the power play in their last two games…Forwards Tim King and Mike Richard each recorded a multiple-point evening, with King potting a goal and scoring an assist (1-1=2) and Richard contributing two helpers (0-2=2).
