MANSFIELD, Mass. - The Saint Anselm College men's hockey team swept the weekly Northeast-10 Conference awards, as Peter Sikalis, Colin Soucy and Mike Ferraro were each honored by the conference on Tuesday.
Sikalis was named the NE10 Player of the Week after being tabbed as the MVP after leading the Hawks to the Middlebury Holiday Classic title this weekend. The senior assisted on the game-tying goal with 2:25 left in regulation in Friday's opener against host Middlebury, as the Hawks advanced in a shootout after a 3-3 tie. He then set up the game-winning goal midway through the third period in a 2-1 victory over Manhattanville in the championship game. The award marked the second time the reigning NE10 Defender of the Year has been named the NE10 Player of the Week in his career.
Soucy gathered NE10 Goaltender of the Week honors the day after being named the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Goaltender of the Week. The sophomore stopped 26-of-27 shots in just his second start of the season in the 2-1 win over Manhattanville in the championship game. The 26 saves were a career-high for Soucy with nine coming in the final period as the Hawks rallied for the victory.
Ferraro was picked as the NE10 Rookie of the Week for his second weekly award of the season, after being named NEHC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 5. The freshman scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period to lift the Hawks to the victory against Manhattanville on Saturday. The goal was his fourth of the season and his first collegiate game-winner.
The Hawks return to action in the NEHC with a trip to UMass Boston on Friday, Jan. 6 for a 7 p.m. contest.
