MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's hockey team has claimed the top seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Ice Hockey Championship, as officially announced by the league office on Sunday.
Saint Anselm and St. Michael's finished the regular season with eight points on identical 4-1-0 records in NE10 play, but the Hawks earned the top seed by virtue of a 4-0 win over the Purple Knights on Saturday, Nov. 12.
As the No. 1 seed, Saint Anselm will host No. 4 seed Assumption (5-5-1 NE10) in the semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at Sullivan Arena. The Hawks are 3-0 all-time against the Greyhounds in the NE10 Championship.
Saturday's other semifinal will feature No. 2 seed St. Michael's (4-1-0 NE10) and No. 3 seed Stonehill (6-4-1 NE10) at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks earned the No. 3 seed over the Greyhounds base on goal differential in their three-game series. The two teams split the three games evenly (1-1-1) and were tied on all other tie-breaker criteria.
The championship game is set for Saturday, Feb. 25 at the site of the highest remaining seed. The time for the title game has yet to be determined.
Saint Anselm has made the NE10 Championship field in all 17 previous seasons of the tournament and boasts an all-time record of 25-7 (.781) in the event. The Hawks have won nine NE10 Championship titles and have been in the finals in 15 of the prior 17 tournaments.
Ticket prices for the semifinals are $6 for adults, $4 for children and seniors and $1 for students with valid NE10 ID.
