BOSTON, Mass. – Senior goaltender Shane Joyce recorded 32 saves to post his second-straight shutout for the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team as the Hawks finished off a sweep of Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill College with a 3-0 victory on Saturday night at Warrior Ice Arena.
Joyce's 32 saves came a night after he had 26 to give him 58 saves over back-to-back shutouts for Saint Anselm (7-7-1, 4-2-0 NE10). Junior Jeremy Carignan, freshman Alec Andreucci and sophomore Mike Ferraro all found the back of the net for the Hawks, who secured a win in the regular-season series with Stonehill (4-10-1, 2-4-1 NE10) with the victory.
Joyce made 10 saves in the first period, 13 in the second and nine more in the third on the night to record back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season. He also kept Post University off the board in both games of a sweep on Nov. 17-18.
Carignan got the scoring started with an unassisted goal at 6:05 of the opening period with his second of the year. The senior intercepted a pass at center ice and scored on a breakaway, beating Billy Palmer low on the blocker side to score with Saint Anselm's first shot on goal of the game.
Later in the first, the Hawks doubled their advantage on Andreucci's power-play goal as the frreshman got his sixth of the season off assists from senior Jon Pallotta and sophomore Liam O'Sullivan just 19 seconds into the man advantage. O'Sullivan's assist the first of his career for the sophomore, who has a point in each of the last three games. Andreucci's six goals make him the NE10's leading goalscorer among freshmen and put him second on the team, trailing only Ferraro.
Saint Anselm's third goal came from Ferraro, who scored his 12th of the season at 4:57. Sophomore Trey Aiello won control of the puck at center ice, fed ahead to Ferraro on the right and the NE10's leading goalscorer ripped a shot over Palmer's right shoulder and in from just inside the right circle.
Stonehill outshot Saint Anselm in each period and by a 32-25 count for the game but was 0-for-4 on the power play. The Hawks killed off all nine of their penalties in the weekend series.
Next weekend, Saint Anselm hosts Assumption in an NE10 series on Pink in the Rink/Alumni Weekend at Sullivan Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. in Friday night's opener on Jan. 19.
