The Hawks improve to 9-8-1 overall and 4-1-0 against NE10 opponents. The Skyhawks drop to 4-9-0 overall and 1-5-0 in league games.

Both teams had a few quality chances in the opening period early in the game. A two-on-one breakaway for Stonehill with just 3:11 elapsed was squandered on a kick save by Hawks' senior netminder Colin Soucy (North Andover, Mass.).

The Hawks had a chance to take the lead with 8:59 left in the opening period with a wide open net. A pass found sophomore Alec Andreucci (Guilford, Conn.) for a one-timer. However, his shot was gloved out of the air by Skyhawk goaltender Billy Palmer to keep the game scoreless.

It was the visitors that struck first 5:10 left in the opening stanza. Michael Seibold dropped a pass to Christopher Page in the offensive zone. Page sent a wrist shot over the shoulder of Soucy to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks responded quickly in the second period with a power play tally at the 1:34 mark. Freshman Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) sent a pass to junior Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.) for a one-timer to tie the game.

After Palmer made a trio of saves for Stonehill, the Hawks finally took the lead for good with 6:49 elapsed in the second period. Sophomore John Femia (Canton, Mass.) skated into the offensive zone and sent a bouncing puck to the right wing. Trey Aiello (Williamsburg, Va.) had a slap shot to a gaping net to make it 2-1 in favor of the Hawks. That tally ended up being the game-winner.

Saint Anselm had to kill off a penalty at the 11:23 mark of the period but Soucy only had to make one save to keep his team ahead.

Stonehill looked for the equalizer on several occasions in the final five minutes of the period but Soucy stood tall in net.

The third period had plenty of action. In the first five minutes, Stonehill had a pair of shots that came close to tying the game. However, the first hit the post with the second going just wide of the net, both coming off the stick of Zachary Frament.

The Hawks had their chances midway through the period with three shots by freshman Jake Cimarusti (Buffalo Grove, Ill.). Two of his chances were stopped by Palmer while one went just wide of the net.

Saint Anselm kept the pressure on late in the period to hold the Skyhawks in their defensive end. Stonehill pulled their goalie with 1:39 left in regulation but only mustered a single shot on net.

The Hawks outshot their opponent 32-26 in the game. Soucy finished the night with 25 saves while Palmer had 30 saves for Stonehill.

Both teams square-off again on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Sullivan Arena with a 4 p.m. puck drop.
