The Hawks improve to 12-10-1 overall and 7-2 against NE10 opponents while the Purple Knights fall to 4-12-4 overall and 4-4-3 in league play.

It was a rematch of last season's NE10 Championship game in which Saint Anselm won in exciting fashion, erasing a three-goal deficit to win in overtime. The Hawks and Saint Michael's also played back on Nov. 2, 2018 to open NE10 play where Saint Anselm again won in overtime, this time it was a 5-4 victory in South Burlington, Vt.

After a back-and-forth opening period, it was Saint Anselm that scored a late goal with exactly two minutes left in the first. Sophomore Sean Verrier (Reading, Mass.) found freshman Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) crashing the net. Iacullo pushed the puck under the pads of Purple Knights' goalie Tim Decker for the 1-0 lead.

The Purple Knights knotted the game at one goal on a power play tally by Zach Sullivan at the 5:53 mark. The Hawks responded a little under four minutes later on a goal by sophomore Alec Andreucci (Guilford, Conn.). Iacullo skated down the ice and sent a pass to Andreucci, who one-timed a shot behind Decker.

Saint Michael's went on the power play with 2:54 left in the second period and took advantage. With time winding down on the extra-man opportunity, Brandon Mitchell found the back of the net with 59 seconds left in the second period, after tipping in a shot from the point, to send the game into the second intermission tied at two.

It was a slow start to the third period but the Hawks regained the lead at the 4:10 mark. Senior Jeremy Carignan (Amos, Quebec) got a pass from junior Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.) in the slot. Carignan skated in between defenders before wristing a shot toward the left side of the net to make it 3-2.

Less than a minute later, the score was 4-2 thanks to another goal by Iacullo after a drop pass from sophomore Matt Chisholm (Scutuate, Mass.) that set up a one-timer.

Saint Michael's made things interesting late in the game. Not a lot of action happened but after the visitors pulled their goaltender with 4:10 left, the Purple Knights brought the game within a goal at the 16:08 mark of the final period, thanks to a tally by Jack Ouellette.

The Purple Knights looked for the equalizer late again after pulling their goalie. The Hawks would ice the game with 1:18 left as Ferrero sealed the victory with the empty-netter. Freshman Sean Healy (Quincy, Mass.) picked up his first-career point after assisting on the tally.

The Hawks outshot Saint Michael's 35-29 in the game, including 13-5 in the third period. Senior goaltender Colin Soucy (North Andover, Mass.) picked up his 10th victory of the year, stopping 26 of the 29 shots he faced. Decker suffered the loss, making 34 saves for the Purple Knights.

Both teams return to the ice on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Sullivan Arena for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
