MANSFIELD, Mass. – Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey junior Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.) was named Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) Player of the Week while freshman Kilian Hammersmith (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was named NE10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Both Ferraro and Hammersmith helped the Hawks go 2-0-1 during the week and regain control of the top spot of the NE10 standings. Saint Anselm just needs one point of four available points in its final two games of the regular season to lock up the Hawks third-straight regular season title.
Ferraro, who earned his second weekly award, had three goals over three games, including a pair of game-winning tallies. He had a pair of goals during a 7-3 win over Franklin Pierce on Friday, Feb. 8, including the game winner. He also tallied the game-winner during a 4-0 victory over the Ravens on Saturday, Feb. 9.
On the year, Ferraro is third on the team with 17 points with his team-leading 12 goals along with five assists. He has three game-winning goals on the year and four power play tallies. In his career, Ferraro has played in 73 games with 34 goals and 20 assists for 54 points.
Hammersmith earned his first rookie of the week honor after four points over a three game spread. He scored the Hawks first goal during a 2-2 tie against Assumption on Feb. 5. He posted a goal and an assist during a 7-3 win over Franklin Pierce on Friday, Feb. 8 while adding a helper during a 4-0 victory over the Ravens the following day.
In his career, Hammersmith has six points on four goals and two assists in 15 games.
Ferraro, Hammersmith, and the rest of the Saint Anselm men's ice hockey team wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series with the Penmen from Southern New Hampshire University. The first game is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 in Hooksett, N.H. at the Ice Den.
